Hi fellow spacers,
I’ve been hard at work behind the scenes refining core systems, and both Mining and Combat have now received significant overhauls. Mining in particular has had a backend upgrade, making it far more responsive and reducing those pesky errors.
When the galaxy was first laid out, it followed the original Core-Exiles sphere model. At the time, that made perfect sense as Forged Space was very much in its early stages. I also took some creative liberties with system Law Levels — typically these are dictated by the system’s star, and that remains true.
Asteroid fields, however, were originally placed using a bit of a “finger in the air” approach — largely because mining wasn’t even functional at that stage.
Now that things have evolved, it’s time to bring some proper structure to them.
With the SAFE / LAWLESS threshold now set at Law Level 8, asteroid fields are being rebalanced across the galaxy. Going forward, each system will still be governed by its star’s Law Level, but asteroid fields within that system will now fall within a ±2 variance.
Example:
A Law Level 10 system will now contain asteroid fields ranging from LL8 through to LL12.
What’s happening next?
At 14:30 (game time) today, I’ll be taking the server offline briefly to:
Rebalance all existing asteroid fields
Introduce additional fields
Ensure everything follows the new LL ±2 system rule
Downtime should be no more than 30 minutes.
What this means for you
If you’ve been hunting rare or exotic resources, you may need to explore new locations. However, this change brings much-needed consistency — you’ll now be able to look at a system and have a clear expectation of what you might find there.
Thanks, as always, for your patience and support. Changes like this are important to keep Forged Space evolving in the right direction.
✨ Improvement
- Mining Drone item descriptions now clearly show which ore rarities each drone tier can mine. Basic: Common only. Superior: Common and Uncommon. Advanced: Common, Uncommon, and Rare. Descriptions also include deployment and crafting information.
🔧 Bug Fix
- Fixed a bug where pirate wrecks would suddenly vanish during Co-op Lawless Mining sessions. The solo mining aggression system was incorrectly triggering inside co-op sessions, wiping wrecks from the database. Wrecks now persist correctly throughout the session.
