So you’re new to Mining and Combat?
Well I could teach you how to mine, but anyone can mine – get up cosy and hit it with your Mining laser. You did fit a mining laser right?

Anyway lets talk Combat.

Those pesky Pirates are everywhere you go. You can find them in the space lanes infecting the Asteroid Field and of course they have their own Hideouts these days, the balls on them honestly! But I digress.

Pirate Patrols
If you’re still new to this and you’re visiting the Asteroid fields in Feris you should be fairly safe. But it’s a great place to start and great place to do some hull busting practice. First things first – Those groups you see hovering around the ends of the Asteroid Fields, those are patrolling, you don’t get too close and they will leave you alone.  Poke your nose in their face, and they will come after you like angry bees.

Pirate Agro
But like bees they have a limited attention span and if you high tail it away they WILL drop off after a while. So if you get spooked by three or four run away and then when you only have one on your six, stop and kick his ass!

Turrets Kick Ass!
I made sure when you arrived in the Sphere Galaxy that we dropped a few Combat Turrets (Sentry MK1’s) to be precise. They were dropped in your ‘Consumables’ section of your Ships Inventory. If you get time go look them up and review their info.

Bandwidth
Pretty much all the defence systems you will own other than your Guns will use what we call ‘Bandwidth’. That’s how much you have to control drones and Turrets etc.
Each item you deploy has a Bandwidth requirement –  see where this is going? Your starter Marauder has 15 Bandwidth, so you can deploy drones and Turrets up to 15 BW.

There are secondary deployment rules and requirements. Turret will be limited by your Engineering Skill, which I suspect is currently Zero.  But don’t worry you can still deploy One Turret like the Sentry MK1 you were given. It will deploy and set itself up (static) to defend you or attack any pirates that come in range.

Don’t leave a man behind (Read Turret)
Turrets are not cheap, the MK1 Sentries cost approx 19K each in resources. Losing them is not the end of the world but try NOT to leave them behind. They WILL REPAIR when not being attacked and after a short period has passed. Once fully repaired they can be recovered. (Small green arrow on the end of the Turrets’ entry in the Panel).

They are a GREAT boon for any new player and will help you no end whilst doing early mining and learning how to deal with the odd patrol pirate that wanders up and down the field.
